Infrared Thermal Imaging of Electrical Systems
What is your frequency of thermal scans and what is the proper procedure to follow when doing a scan so nothing is missed? Please share your thoughts and views.

Electrician and the scanning guy shows up. Electrician takes off the panel covers and the other guys scans them/takes pic's. This is not the most accurate way to do this. I'll wait till more input comes in and we shall debate the process.

The best time to do this type of scan is when the equipment being scaned is in use..............A thermal scan only works when there is heat present.

But not all equipment is in operation or can be operated while scans are conducted. Eg: Auxiliary chiller and/or boiler equipment, cooling tower fans, pumps etc. So, how useful are these scans if we are missing some of the equipment that cannot be operated or run for an adequate time period before being scanned.

In the case of equipment that is not running ,or not operated for an adequate amount of time , an infered scan may not find any faults. A visual inspection may be your best solution............................

I understand, but how do you get peak use out of constant start/stop equipment such as compressors, sump pumps, cooling tower fans etc?
